10 For the Next 10: Liza Wisner

Powerhouse. Innovator. Inspiration. brJust a few words that describe Liza Njeri brMucheru Wisner, who is a business owner, brhumanitarian, DE&I specialist, author, public brspeaker, wife and mother of three.

 Wisner came to the Coastal Bend on bra golf scholarship, attending Texas A&M brUniversity- Corpus Christi for her bachelor’s brin computer science and Master of Science brin educational technology. She was inspired brto reach adolescents to code, which led her brto founding Texas Techies and PowerUp, brtechnology companies that equip children brwith science, technology, engineering brand mathematics (STEM) education, and brespecially seek to empower disadvantaged bryouth.

“It’s up to us as a community to be able brto bridge that gap,” said Wisner.While many of brher passions and qualifications intersect in brdelivering STEM education to economically brdisadvantaged communities, it’s just the brbeginning of her work. Wisner is a public brspeaker, leadership coach, an internationally brrecognized leadership and development brexecutive and a media professional who brhosts a radio show. She even appeared on brseason 10 of “The Apprentice,” where she was brin the top three.

 She also takes on consulting roles for brvarious organizations, working shoulder-to-shoulder with senior and executive leadership bron various initiatives including program brlaunches, growth strategy development and brmanagement of business life cycles.

Wisner is an accomplished training brfacilitator, leading technical, learning and brleadership training for more than 3,000 brindividuals each year.

 

 She is dedicated to spreading awareness brand education around DE&I—diversity, brequity and inclusion—and is currently a brSenior Curator of DE&I at OpenSesame, an bre-learning organization. Her efforts around brDE&I are more than a profession; they’re a brvocation.

“I want my legacy to be an opportunity brwhere everyone has a platform,” said Wisner. br“Where everybody has a voice, and everybody brhas a space to be able to become an agent of brchange.”

Wisner is also deeply rooted in the brcommunity with active roles in many brnonprofit organizations, including being a Girl Scouts of the Coastal Bend Board Member, PRIDE Corpus Christi Secretary and a board brmember of Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend – just to name a few.

Wisner’s career, accomplishments and brcommunity involvement are creating impacts brand ripple effects that will be felt now, and for brgenerations to come.

 “A legacy where you leave it better than bryou found it—that is always the lens through brwhich I see the work I’m doing,” said Wisner. br“How can Corpus Christi become the best brcity; not only in the state of Texas, but the brworld? When people think about a city that brthey love, I want them to think about Corpus brChristi.”
